Softwarepatente: Aufruhr im E-Learning-Sektor �
Die Firma Blackboard hat das Learning Management System (LMS) patentiert und damit viel böses Blut in der Branche verursacht. Nach amerikanischem Recht wurde der Firma ein Patent genehmigt, das ihr ziemlich alles, was mit Learning Management Systemen zu tun hat, garantiert. Man könnte das Patent so interpretieren, dass Blackboard die Rechte an jeder Art von Groupware hat, die bei Lernsoftware eingesetzt wird. Das würde schwerwiegende Folgen sowohl für Entwickler als auch für die Open-Source-Gemeinde haben. Am selben Tag reichte Blackboard eine Patentklage gegen den Konkurrenten Direct2Learn ein. Nicht nur freie Lernprogramme wie Moodle und Sakai könnten damit ebenso belangt werden, sogar ein Content Management System (CMS) wie Drupal könnte demnach belangt werden.

The company Blackboard patented the Learning management system (LMS) and caused thus much bad blood in the industry. After American right a patent was approved to the company, which guarantees it quite everything that has to do with Learning management systems. One could interpret the patent in such a way that Blackboard has the rights at each kind of Groupware, which is used at learning software. That would have serious consequences both for developers and for the open SOURCE municipality. On the same day Blackboard submitted a patent complaint against the competitor Direct2Learn. Free teaching programs such as Moodle and Sakai could not only be sued thereby just as, even a content management system (CMS) as Drupal could therefore be sued.
